National Doctor's Day is celebrated on 1st July every year to recognise the invaluable work done by doctors and physicians and thank them for their dedicated service.

Every year on July 1, India celebrates National Doctors Day in honour of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, the most famous physician of India.

The First Doctor's Day was celebrated in India in the year 1991


July 1 happens to be the birth and death anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, a Bharat Ratna awardee, former chief minister of West Bengal and one of the most popular Congress leaders from eastern India.It is hence a tribute to his contributions to the health domain in the country.

This day is celebrated to show gratitude to all workers in the field of medicine, who have unconditionally and selflessly helped us in the time of need. It's that time of the year to celebrate the real heroes out there who are fighting the long war against the coronavirus for our safety at the cost of their own.

With the coronavirus pandemic still looming over our day-to-day lives, the significance of National Doctor's Day 2021 has increased ten folds. As the situation is getting grimmer with each passing day, the situation at COVID wards remains gloomy. In such situations, doctors go a step further from their usual job and creates a lively and happy environment to cheer up the patients and raise their morale to fight against COVID-19.

With the number of infected people on the rise every day and hospitals teeming with hundreds of people, it has never been more important to appreciate the efforts that doctors make to ensure that we sufficiently recover from whatever may be ailing us and continue to remain healthy.

The red carnation was chosen as the official symbol of Doctors Day because of the color of the flower is in spirit of characters of medical profession. It represents adoration, charity, sacrifice, bravery and audacity.

This day is dedicated to all the doctors opportune to remind them of their vital role in our lives. People find Doctor's Day a perfect time to recognize the pressure of the job, expressing thanks to doctors for mentoring and to be grateful for their ability to comfort and heal.

Doctors are truly the greatest heroes, of not just the present but of all time.
