Dr. Surya Bhan is one of the most experienced joint replacement surgeon in India,
having performed over 2500 hip and knee replacements of which 400 are revision joint replacement procedures.
Dr. Bhan pioneered joint replacement surgery in north India and has demonstrated such
operations at training workshops all over the country. Hundreds of young surgeons have been trained
under him in short and long term fellowships and in his yearly meeting - "Current Concepts in Joint Replacement".
Dr. Surya Bhan has provided orthopaedic treatment to President, Vice President and three Prime Ministers of India.
He established First in India an exclusive and dedicated "Bone and Tissue Allograft Bank" at AIIMS in year 2000
with facilities for procuring, processing, storage and usage of bone allograft from both living and nonliving donors.
He is the only surgeon in India to date to have experience of using the fresh frozen banked bone of whole
upper femur (Proximal Femoral Allograft), whole lower femur (Distal Femoral Allograft) and the whole upper tibia
(Proximal Tibial Allograft) in reconstructive joint replacement surgeries.
Dr. Surya Bhan is nationally and internationally recognized as best clinical and academic orthopaedic
surgeon in India who has 51 publications in international journals, 102 publications in Indian journals
and guest lectures in 154 national and international conferences and workshops. His important research is
in areas of use of allograft in revision arthroplasty, two-incision minimally invasive total hip replacement,
minimally invasive knee arthroplasty, mobile and fixed bearing total knee replacement, joint replacement
in ankylosed knees and hips and simultaneous bilateral hip and knee replacement surgery.
